Fertilizer / Palm Feeding

Palms are unique and temperamental in the plant world and have nutritional needs that are very different from ordinary trees. Newly transplanted palms especially need proper feeding, it is very essential for their long-term health and vigor.

My arborist wants me to pass along all palms should be fed 3x per year, spring, summer and fall using a granular fertilizer designed especially for palms. The placement of the fertilizer is important, with a lot of factors involved including the type of irrigation you plan to use onsite. I recommend the use of an arborist for this. A palm maintenance schedule should be started right after your palms are installed.

In addition, I always recommend that all newly planted Canary Island Date palms receive 2 applications of the foliar micronutrient fertilizer product called S.T.E.M. in order to boast their vitality during the establishment period. The first application should be made 30 - 60 days after planting and the second 45 days later. All the pesticide and foliar fertilizer applications should be done by a professional pesticide applicator. The company I would recommend is Plant-Tek / Jack Olmstead @ 800 779-3337.
