CANARY ISLAND DATE PALMS
No change of grade is permitted –This includes capping with soil or turf or the planting of flowers or plants on top of the root-ball. Keep the top of the root-ball open except for a 1-2 inch layer of a loose, chunky bark material.
Enough water shall be applied to thoroughly soak the entire root-ball and surrounding backfill every 5 days in the spring, summer and fall – every 7 days in the winter. If a drip or soaker hose system is not in place then a 12” watering berm shall remain in place for one year. No contaminates are allowed inside this berm such as masonry resinates nor is the storage of any material allowed inside this berm area.
Two mandatory fungicide soil drenches are required – the 1st using Cleary's 3336 Subdue shortly after planting, and the 2nd using Cleary's Subdue 45 days later. They should be applied by a professional pesticide applicator. The recommended company is Plant-Tek - Jack Olmstead, 800 779-3337.. It is also strongly recommended that this company apply 2 foliar crown applications of a foliar micronutrient fertilizer, called STEM, 30 days apart in order to boost the vitality of the palm during the establishment period. |
